Watch Wings Work
Hello all! This is going to be a short and succinct blog post for this month, but for once actually in the time of the month itself rather than a few days later. I thought it best to write my musings now while its fresh on the mind, however quick they may be. So, let’s go!
First off, my novella has once again been placed on the back burner whilst I adapt to a new routine. Don’t worry, the burning flame to write this text is still ever raging and there is not a day where I don’t mull over another point in the story. After all, I feel very passionately this is a tale needing to be written. My goal has not and will never falter and so I am planning on returning very, very soon once half term begins - something which is approaching more rapidly every day! You will see more from this upcoming writer.
In other creative news, I revealed last week how I was given the chance to host my own Creative Writing after-school club. My first session I believe was a huge success! The students were buzzing with amazing ideas and with such a broad range of themes and genres in mind for the task I set them, focusing on using objects and images to form stories. After all, there is no creativity without inspiration and I feel so privileged to be a part of their creative journey. I look forward to the next session with very high hopes.
As a side project, I am currently drafting a poem inspired by the soon-to-be Black History Month, as a part of the school curriculum but also as a side passion of mine. I have been very quickly and instantly struck by that lightning bolt strike that is the creative muse and find myself absorbed by the passionate lines and stanzas pouring from my mind. Although a keen prose writer who favours novel work, I still dabble in the odd poetry when my heart is truly set on the theme. This one is of definite importance, not just in today’s society but in general. I hope to share this work at some point and cannot wait to unveil it to my peers at the school for their opinions - hopefully I have done well!
In a final reflection, recently I was lucky enough to join a school trip to Castleton. I visited once during my own time in primary school but did not realise the sheer beauty of its surroundings! I long to sit amongst the rolling greenery and lose myself in its natural ambience. For this reason alone - and also the quaint village - I shall definitely be returning. Here are some particularly inspiring pics for you:
That’s it for this month’s blog. Next month I will divulge in more writing and adventurous musings, including a very exciting birthday trip to London, so keep a look out for this!
Until next time, keep well!
Emily
