Diving in Flight
Good evening to the readers of February’s blog! This entry will be slightly different and shorter, given the detour I have momentarily taken from writing to strengthen both my mindset and potential paths for the future. As such, and considering current world events, this entry shall venture down the secondary subject of this online platform - positive inspiration! Rest assured, with a rising improvement in mental health I can already feel the spark to continue writing strengthen with each passing day, so March’s entry is bound to include the fruits of this attitude. For now, I shall reflect on the importance of balancing one’s career and aspirations with a continous hopeful attitude.
So, to begin with, I shall reflect on my recent trip to Lincoln over the weekend. This city will always hold a special place in my heart for all it has offered me during my time at its university and living amongst its modern and historical buildings and landscape. Ask anyone who knows me and they will reiterate how I will always jump at the earliest opportunity to visit my second home. Such was the case over the recent weekend where I volunteered to be a makeshift tour guide for my cousin and a friend, who have both recently accepted the University of Lincoln as their firm choice of university for September 2022. I really enjoyed reliving my own pre-, during and post-university journey with them, sharing my own initial fears, excitement and nostalgic advice to the future undergraduates. Not only this, the gloriously sunny weather meant touring around the university campus and nearby city became an extremely enjoyable and rewarding day out. It was also a great opportunity to see how much the university has grown since I graduated and became an alumni, rather than a student. More accommodations, more subject buildings, more places to eat and socialise … the campus is constantly expanding! I can only hope current and future students are having as great a time as I was lucky enough to experience.
Finally - as I said, this blog is a short and sweet snapshot into this aspiring author’s journey - I mentioned how I have put aside my quill for the moment to focus on career moves. This is because I have now reached that point in my post-university journey where I feel ready to further spread my wings and advance towards gaining job experience to aid in my ultimate career aims. As such, my evenings are often spent in search of positions that compliment my ultimate goal to become a published author, journeying down avenues where I have the experience, knowledge and passion to become a valued member of the staff team. Currently this involves positions using social media, writing, administration or receptionist skills. As such, I am constantly sharpening my reference skills as well as my creative pen, constantly updating my CVs and cover letters to boost my opportunities. This is something to keep in mind, for it is through the words written on these documents that provide an important first impression to potential employers. I am certain my creativity, and with it my drive, will be strengthened through this shift in focus and I am very much looking forward to the hopeful rewards of my dedication to reach for and achieve my goals. After all, all any of us can do is pursue that which drives and motivates us to become the person we were meant to be.
This is where I leave my blog for this month. Apologies if you are somewhat disheartened by the lack of creative and writing involvement in this entry however, as mentioned earlier, I am very positive that this month will see my writer brain blaze into life once more. We all have our mental detours, but we can and will get back on our set course again. I wish everyone the best and hope you find the light in the shadows of current news. Stay strong and keep well!
Until next time,
Emily
